my grandparents have just bought a laptop with vista home premium on it. they want an office suite and ms office is a little too expensive for what they want. they want an office suite to do basic stuff: write letters, do the fiances etc. and they do not want something that is complicated to use. which should i get open office or microsoft works?
Microsoft works 8.5 vs open office 2?nortan antivirus
I suggest you get openoffice at openoffice.org. I have been using it for years on Windows and Linux PC's without any issues. The fact that it is free makes it so attractable. While Vista has not been out for that long, I could not find any major problems with Open Office on Vista. That would be one of my concerns as Vista is so new.
If they do not want to install anything on their pc, they can also check the Google Apps. Google has Office-like programs available at docs.google.com.

OpenOffice is the way to go. I have windows vista and i have not had any problems with openoffice and openoffice is compatible with all text files out there.

Works is very limited, and it's not free. OO is A LOT better and 100% free. Easy choice!
I have to agree with Sue. I have been using open office for 4 years now. I have also used Microsoft office 2003. Open office can be saved in Microsoft and some other formats too. there are allot of Gov agency's in US and other Countries that Use Open Office. Plus Open Office is free. Why pay 100+.when you can do the same with a free program like Open Office.
Open office comes with Base, Calc, Draw, Math, Impress, Writer
