okay first off it came with my new vista computer that i got in june of last year. I've activated the 60 day trial thing before but heres my problem...

i opened the microsoft word thing and a box came up (as it always did) so i typed in the new key. it approved and i pressed continue, then i followed the directions from there, i pressed install now and then it told me to close the Microsoft word, so i did, and then it would work. well i tried it a couple times and it didn't work. can you please give me step by step directions on how to get it working again. thanks soooo muchh!

In a more detailed manner, I sent my Xbox 360 in for repairs to Microsoft for the infamous Open Tray problem. I would put a game in there and it would say reading then it would revert back to Open Tray as if no game is in there. So, after I sent it in for repairs I wondered what does Microsoft actually do about this problem? Do they replace the dead laser, put in a new DVD drive, what do they do for this problem? Also, does whatever they do to the Xbox 360 for this problem usually fix it for good, if not a long time?

They will either replace the DVD drive or give you a refurbished console. The replacement is just as likely to break as the old one.

By having Microsoft, do you mean you have Microsoft Office?

If you have Office 2003 or 2007 installed on your computer, then you have Publisher on your system.

But, if you mean that you have Microsoft Windows installed on your computer, it does not necessarily mean that Microsoft Office will also be installed on your computer. Office is sold as a separate package by Microsoft and you might have to pay for it.

I actually like Brunderbunds Printshop for posters,type,graphics,editing and changing my photos. Its only 50.00 and its ease of use is great-and its art catalog is huge. Its not strickly art or photo but I use it constsntly and hardly ever dip into the others with my work on my website or art portfolio or photo editing.

There's Paint.net and the GIMP. Both free and powerful. Give 'em a try!
Adobe Photoshop is hands down the best photo-editing and graphics design program you can get. Unless you're going to be doing professional-style details, Photoshop is great. There are very expensive programs that will give you more options, but coming from Paint to Photoshop will amaze you.

I'll warn you, it does take a little bit of getting used to, so don't get frustrated. Also, Photoshop doesn't run cheap--it's anywhere from $100-$300. I'm sure if you wanted to do something illegal, you could find a way to download it for free--but I wouldn't suggest it (as it's illegal, and could be a virus).

Anyway, there are high school and college courses on Photoshop to start you out, or you can just search on Google for some basic tips!

How do I Recover Microsoft Office from a back up Folder?

Due to a wicked virus, the only thing I could do was hit F11 and do a "back up and recover" which started me back at the original set up. I've got a folder with everything on stored on the (C:) drive and my Microsoft Office is back to the 60 day trial.

I do not have the Microsoft Office CD or registry code or anything, just various folders under program files in this backuped up file.

So... Is there any way I can transfer the Microsoft Office folders from my backed up file and get them to run on my new drive without needing the CD or the or the codes?

Any specifics would be great. I'm not a tech guy, but I think I know the basics.

The key on the computer case is for Windows, not for Word (Office). That key would be on the disk or case if you've just bought Office.

If you haven't, and this is a new computer on which Word seems to have come for free, you probably have a trial version. You should be able to push past the registration screen and use Word for a while: 25 uses or 30, 60 or 90 days, depending on the deal your machine's manufacturer struck with Microsoft.

At the end of that time, and apparently without warning, it will let you read your files, but not edit them or create new ones. You have to purchase Microsoft Office 2007, or at least Word 2007, to do that.

If the textbook is oriented toward Office 2007, you're going to have rough going in some places using any earlier version. Word 2007 went to a totally different user interface, and I suspect other homework assignments won't even be doable with Word 2003. (Office 2004, by the way, was the Mac version. I doubt you have that one.)

You might want to take a look at a free trial version of Office 2007 from Microsoft. Be warned, however, that after some usage- or time-limit (30, 60 or 90 days) it will expire, apparently without warning, leaving your existing files readable but not editable.

If that happens, you can download the free Compatibility Pack from Microsoft to at least be able to edit those files in Word 2003.

the problem is with norton. those problems interfere with lots of other programs. personally I would download Firefox, put the yahoo tolbar with that and you won't have any more problems.

Every time I click Microsoft Word, Expression, Publisher, etc, Windows installer starts and says something like "please wait while microsoft office configures..."

So what I am looking for is a solution that doesn't require downgrading the operating system or MS Office or deleting those.

Do you know of any setting that can be changed, registry keys that can be deleted or added that can take care of this problem so when i click those programs they don't take several minutes to load because trying to configure or install it when already configured or installed? and perhaps a fix that will keep windows installer in Windows Vista from doing this with other programs already installed?

Does it ever finish Configuring Office? Usually the first time that you run a program it has to get everything set up for you. You might even have to enter some values (name, address) for word. You really don't have to, but You have go through the wizard. if you just cancel out of it, then it well start up again next time.

Have you set everything up. Does anything ever even come up!

I have a TOSHIBA laptop of the model Satellite A100-036. I got it installed with original WIndows Vista. Later on, I faced some problems with the microphone device while voice chatting on yahoo messenger. I showed the problem to an IT professional and he recommended using the product recovery CD that came along with my laptop. He then used that CD and Im not really sure how he used it. The voice was bk. But suddenly, I realized that applications like Ms Word, Powerpoint were missing !! Basically speaking, I dont have Microsoft Office. Microsoft develops new OS and dumps them on us while still full of bugs and when our old OS are doing fine. Then they stop supporting and selling the old OS so we are forced to upgrade. Software developers are then forced to find patches to get their programs to work. Everytime I have to change OS I either lose compatibility with some of my hardware or software like games. Games that I loved I can no longer play because they are not compatible with newer OS no matter what microsoft claims about backward compatibility.

Well Microsoft are a Monopoly currently, but Apple and Linux play a huge part to keep them on their toes and for them to remain competitive. Linux is my favourite but the only reason I use Windows is for gaming compatibility. Microsoft are only really the market leaders because they patent everything and rush release products onto the market stating that its revolution, when in fact there are so many bugs, it makes it hard to do anything.

Windows Vista is a joke. It may look pretty but you try to actually do anything on it and its blue screen of death time...It basically eats at your computer's resources until it's so slow and frustrating you want to throw it out the Window (sorry for pun lol)

You can run some games with the Wine emulator in the Linux OS but sometimes it can be fiddly, hence why I reluctantly use Windows.

PivotTable for Microsoft Excel...can anyone help?

I'm running Microsoft Office 2003. And I'm trying to take data from a microsoft word document and put it into an excel spreadsheet. The thing is, when I copy and paste the information, it is all put into one cell. The document is about 2000 words long and I want about 3 words in each cell. As far as I know, what I want is called a PivotTable...and there is a wizard for this in Excel...but it's not getting me anywhere. I don't really understand it. I've tried several times, but it just never worked out.

Can anyone help me and explain? Or maybe give me some tips?

From what you described, it doesn't seem you want need a PivotTable. If all you want to do is make split some data in Word into a table in Excel, then this is not a PivotTable issue.

You must tell Excel how you want the Word data split up. Without seeing the actual data you trying to split (please post), I can't tell you the best way to do this, but here are some tips:

1) Convert the Word Data into a Table in Word and then paste into Excel - you can do this by using:

Table%26gt;Convert%26gt;Text to Table. Enter the delimiter (a text character that tells Word where to put the columns), and your good to go.

2) If you don't have a delimiter in your text, try being creative with Find and Replace to add the delimiter in your text. For example, if the original text is:

Your file assocation may be wrong. You can try editing it, but sometimes, deleting it, restarting Windows and then recreating it is more successful.

To Edit:

Open MyComputer, then click on Tools, Folder Options, File Types.

Scroll down the list to the file type you are using (for Word, it's usually a .doc file)

Now with it highlighted, click on Advanced, select OPEN and click Edit. Under DDE Message it should say [REM _DDE_Direct][FileOpen("%1")]

If it doesn't, change it and save by clicking OK out of the 1st two open boxes, then Apply %26 Close in the final one.

As far as fonts go do a google search for fonts you'll come up with a ton of sites that you can download fonts some are free some are paid you will have to be careful what sites you download from because some may have viruses... just make sure you have a good virus detection program and you'll be fine.

Removing viruses should not remove a program. Perhaps he just removed the shortcut. Have you looked for it through Start, All Programs,Microsoft Office, or even done a Search for it. Again, I don't understand how fonts have disappeared, unless you downloaded these and he did a system restore. But even a system restore would not make a program disappear. Do you not have your program cd in any case. It's not a program you can get for free, unless you download trial version of Office 2007 but this is for limited period only and no way round not buying it after the trial finished. I hope now you have got adequate anti virus protection, anti spam, anti spyware, firewall etc. The first would have removed your problems without having to get your cousin to "fix" it, and cause important stuff to go missing. Unfortunately, though some people tend to try to be helpful, unless they are experts, they often do more damage than good.

Ok let me set the stage.

Apple is the subject of litigation in France because they won't reveal their DRM to competitors. They refused, so France passed a watered-down version of the bill essentially forcing them to do so (but gave Apple some wiggle room).

Also in Europe... the head of some EU economic board just fined Microsoft $400m for basically being slow/bad at writing manuals that describe their source code and stuff (i.e., the same 'proprietary' crap that Apple is refusing to let go).

What's the freaking difference? Why don't they slap a bigass fine on Apple? I'm no Microsoft fanboi here, but they're at least making an attempt to comply, no matter how crappy it was. Apple, on the other hand, is bitching and moaning and refusing.

It could work that way. The comapny will also want to know how he went about getting his MSCE certification and what the name of the school was.

I just have my A+ and Network+ certifications and a degree in Computer Science. Let me tell you without the experience it is just a paper certification. No one will hire a guy for $9/hour with a paper cert without any experience to back it up. I have been there. I got my A+ and Network+ certifications really quick with no experience to back it up, quess what? Employers just saw it as a paper cert and getting a job wasn't any easier with the certifications.

The Lancaster one. As you can recreate the Dam Busters. The Space Shuttle one is also good, as there is FX2004. You could always upgrade to FSX. The beauty is with the upgrades, many don't need the disc to run. so load it up and sell it on.

Yeah, it's a normal function...

It sounds like you may have the 'show hidden files' option turned on. If so, open windows explorer from the start menu (not ie explorer) and click on tools/folder options/view and deselect show hidden files.

Question about Microsoft Wireless-G Base Station?

I recently got a Microsoft Broadband Networking Wireless-G Base Station MN-700 and am having difficulties with it. I hooked it up just fine and can accesses the internet through my desktop (which the base station is attached to). But whenever I try to connect to the network form my laptop it asks for a security key or passphrase. I created a password for my base station but it is not the same thing. I cannot find any information about it in the user's guide and Microsoft wants to charge me $39.99 to call and ask them a question. I'm so lost here... any help?

You can do it in Publisher, but if you're going to email it to others you'll probably have big compatibility issues. Publisher is not tolerant that way. If you're not going to email it (just print it out), then use Publisher and it'll walk you right through the whole thing. Otherwise...

Your best bet is to use Microsoft Word. The more recent versions are pretty powerful with using the clip art gallery and you can format the pictures to be in color, B%26W, grayscale, and whether or not they'll be behind the text or if the text should wrap around it. If you go into word Project Gallery there are templates for brochures, I assume you mean the tri-fold variety. Look around there are other useful ones you might find as well.

Yes, you can open an older 2003 version in 2007 without any problems.

As for your second question, I think your talking about an animated graphic. When you insert it into PowerPoint it doesn't animate it until you play the show (press F5).

Here's a tip you may not be aware of: if you have a large show and you want to view the show from a particular slide you can do it easily. Press F5 to run the show, type in the slide number that you want to view and press enter. Let's assume you want to start your show at page 10. Press F5 then type 10 and press Enter.

Well i dont think you can upgrade unless u buy the upgrade version of office which i dont really exists. If you install Office 2007 it will keep your old office, so u will have 2 different versions of office. You could just remove the old one first and then install the new one.
When you buy Office 2007, and install, it will automatically upgrade the previous Word, Access, Excel etc. All you have to do is put your Office 2007 cd in your computer and follow the instructions, just like other software.

When it is installed, the previous Office system will be gone, so you will have Word 2007 on your pc.

Many of the words I check are not found, for instance, in the electronic version of Oxford Dictionary, but the Microsoft XP TTS Engine pronounces them. Is the Microsoft TTS Engine reliable?

All of them have sound samples and some have the international phonetic alphabet symbols next to them, so you'll slowly start learning those symbols (even without trying too hard) and soon you'll be able to know how a word is pronounced just by looking at the phonetic transcription in a dictionary. This helped me a lot when I learned english and french and nowadays I speak english without an accent (I grew up in Germany) and I can nearly pronounce any french word I read (even if it's the first time I've come across it and I don't know what it means).

if you want it ASAP, go to the nearest computer shop and but that MS OFFICE cd, or download a free trial on microsoft's website. BTW you can use the trial for 60 days.
Why don't you try OpenOffice Write? It's very similar to Microsoft Word and ... it's FREE.

I've got a new laptop which has Microsoft Office installed in it. I have 30 days grace period in which to Activate it, or else they take away most of the features and Im left with the basic software. Did you purchase MS Office with the laptop or did it just come as part of the software package?

If you purchased it then you need to contact the manufacturer or the retail outlet you purchased it from as you should have received a disk with the product key or documentation with the product key.

The product key on the bottom of the laptop is the OS product key, not the Office product key.

If it came as part of the software package then it is likely a trial version and you can click start-%26gt;all programs-%26gt;ms office-%26gt;activation assistant to activate the trial version.

Hi. It's more complicated than that. Many people do NOT know their software is pirated. MS went from denying known pirate keys to comparing known valid keys for any upgrades. The real problem is pirated machines will infect 'Store bought' machines. Not a happy (or simple to fix) problem.

I'm not sure if there is anything we can do to Stop the possible merger, but the most simple approach is to stop using microsoft products, this includes windows.. Try things like Ubuntu Linux, Firefox for internet surfing, Thunderbird for email, OpenOffice for .doc, xls and ppt file.. I started using Ubuntu linux to make sure I wouldn't be forced into vista, That was 7 months ago.. I have been very satisfied..

Up to Tools, Letters and Mailings, Labels. Select the size of label, i.e. Avery A4,J8163 would give you 7 x 2 - 14 to a sheet. When you have chosen the size of label, click on the button, New Document. You will then have 14 blank labels in your document ready for you to type in your addresses which you can then save as a normal file so that you can use over and over again.

This is very difficult to do using Word or Works. You can download free software from Avery. Try Design Pro 5. I think you can find it by searching Avery labels. I am sure there are programs to buy as well. I just found this one yesterday, but haven't used it yet. Good luck.

If you put the cd back in it should prompt you to modify or remove office. Check to see if it gives you the option to install publisher. If not, you may need to completely uninstall office and start from scratch.

Right click on the relevant files, go to properties, and on the general tab, uncheck 'read only'

Microsoft office is 'Read only' so I can't use it. How can I get the Read Only box unticked?spyware remover

Microsoft seems to like to spring this little surprise on Trial version users. Kind of like hooking fish.

1. You could buy Office.

2. Some people around here swear by Open Office, claiming it does everything MS Office does, but I just wonder about that.

Still, it may be worth running a download for. I think it's at www.openoffice.org.

I have Microsoft Internet Explorer 7. when i open it, it will open in a different size that when i closed it. i use it as a maximized window and then when it open it opens in half window. why is it ?

When it opens in the small screen, at the bottom right hand corner you will notice little dots in the shape of an arrow, put your pointer on that till a little arrow goes in both directions then drag it to the size you want, on the side and top,do the same but not in the corner, it should always start like that in future.
