You call up Microsoft and they will send you a "coffin" or box that you can place your 360 in. They send you back another 360 console. Takes a couple weeks to a month usually and a lot of people think they just send you a refurbished 360. I don't think they fix yours or give you a new one. They take another broken one and fix it up so that it is playable. Usually people get the RROD again when they send it in to Microsoft. If you can help it I would recommend not sending it into Microsoft.

If the MS Word Macro is in menu bar, then it is available in Normal.dot.

If you do not wish to have problems the corect way is as follows:

1. Let's call the computer where you currently have the macro ORIGIN and the destination TARGET computers.

2. Create a new document on the ORIGIN computer. Save it with a name of your choice. Let's say DOCMAC.doc. With this document open, go to Tools%26gt;Macros%26gt;Macro... or just hit Alt+F8.

3. A window entitled Macros will popup on your screen.

4. Clic on Organizer...

5. You'll have the Organizer window on the screen.

6. From the scroll down menus above the CLOSE FILE buttons select Normal.dot on the RIGHT side and DOCMAC.doc on the left side menus.

7. Select the macro in the NORMAL.dot that you wish to copy. If you do not know the name, right clic the button on the toolbar which runs it. You'll see its name. After selecting the macro, in the NORMAL.dot pane, hit the COPY button in the middle to have it copied to DOCMAC.doc. You can repeat this for as many macros as you wish to carry.

It depends on what you got on your computer.

Sometimes, computer manufacturers install a trial version of Microsoft Office that works for 90 days. You may have one of those.

However, I have gotten computers from Dell before with MS Office on it. The first time you start the program, it asks for the CD key (which it sounds like you have). That is needed to activate the software. If the software isn't activated within 30 days, it won't work.

Not sure why activation is 30 days but the trial is 90 days. That doesn't make any sense, but that is Microsoft for you.

If I were you, I would contact Dell and tell them your situation. If you should have a valid CD key, they will be able to tell you (and maybe provide you with one that works).

Or you can bypass MS Office entirely and download the free and legal OpenOffice.org from http://www.openoffice.org (which is my office program of choice).

Set your computer to boot from the CDRom and put in your CD. When the computer starts up and boots from the CD, use the repair option. It will recopy files from the CD to the hard drive and then reboot. That should allow W2k to start up normally. Once you get it up and running, check the system and application event logs to get possible answers as to what went wrong with your SP4 update.

1 go to your control panel then,add and remove programs.

3 i also sometimes remove the program file too because its no longer needed and is an older structure too.

Maybe because it is a trial version. The same thing happend to me. I could even go in the other microsoft office programs. Untill i called the Geek Squad and they told me i needed to BUY the real version, and i did. It was like $130 or $150 around there.

The original Xbox was out for four years before the 360 was released, and they continued to release games for the Xbox for 18 months after the release of the 360. That's fair enough, and it's not Microsoft's fault the developers choose to use the newer, more powerful platform now.

BT Broadband with windows XP home network ,wireless connection via netgear ma111 dongles . Computer 1 connects directly to the bt modem %26 connects to any Web Site including microsoft sites.

Computer 2 connects to the internet via the wireless net work but will not access any Microsoft site - all other web sites OK.

When computer 2 was connected, originally. to the modem there were no problems.

I've looked at security options without success .

You may have a virus or spyware on computer 2 that is redirecting microsoft sites. The reason for this would be to prevent you from running updates, which might fix the security vulnerability. Check this file on your computer:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers \etc\hosts

To open the file, you'll have to select a program to open it with. Select Notepad.

This file will have a bunch of lines of text beginning with '#'. These lines are OK, they are only comments. You can ignore any line starting with '#'. After those lines, there should be one additional line that says:

"127.0.0.1 localhost"

This line is also OK. If anything else is in this file, that would be your problem. What you'll probably see is:

"x.x.x.x www.microsoft.com" (where x.x.x.x is an IP address)

What that means is instead of checking the internet to find out what the real address for www.microsoft.com is, it will just use x.x.x.x, which is invalid.

Delete any extra lines you find in this file. You may want to make a copy of the file first just to be safe.

Im using microsoft publisher, and ive put it on my usb stick, and im going to be putting it onto another computer so that i can print. the problem is, the other computer doesnt have publisher. so it wont be able to open it. is there any other way i can? i really really need to get this printed out. i saw the 'open with' button, and pressed it, and the only thing on there that wasnt microsoft was 'notepad' so i changed it to that, but it just comes up with words and empty boxes.

open it with internet explorer. windows should be able to find a suitable one to open it.
This document of your USB stick is in a Publisher format so NotePad won't be able to display it. If you can save the original document as an .rtf (rich text format) file then you could use WordPad to open and print it or better still save it as an HTML document and use Internet Explorer to print it.
An easy way of being able to open it on another program, provided you don't want to edit it, is to save it as a jpeg. I often do this when creating A4 size flyers, because saving as jpeg enables me to resize down to A5 without having to resize individual frame and fonts etc.

Try System Restore, to restore your files and settings to what they were before the update, i have a few times and its worked well.

Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore

Restore to a day or two before the update see if it works.

Note: you can always reverse the restore by going to system restore and select "Undo last restore"

Before going to the 'last known good' step, I would try some basic browser maintenance -

TOSS the Internet temp files - corrupt temp or cookies can crash IE with little effort.

"History" is not that big a deal, but the temporary Internet files can number in the tens of thousands, if you are not careful and allocate too much space to that cache. It is needed in some very rare cases - but deleting the files and restarting the OS could help.

You could also have competing\conflicting browser add-ins - evaluate them and deactivate any that may conflict. And again, restart...

And if you really want to hack him off, let him know that Microsoft made their own UNIX back in the 1980's. It was called XENIX.

Everything else Microsoft has "innovated" in the in the last 2 decades has only been a copy of features in other operating systems. Windows GUI is a copy of Mac OS, Apple GS/OS, Apple LISA, and Amiga's GUI (each of those 4 introduced features that are commonly in use today). Every GUI mentioned is a copy of Xerox PARC's GUI, since Xerox got so many ideas right the first time around...it's just too bad their company executives had no ideas what kind of gold mine they were sitting on.

Also, Apple beat everyone to the 32-bit bus punch with a technology called NuBus, developed by MIT. Except for overall data transfer speed, Mac OS and NuBus had, in the late 80's, what wasn't available in WIndows until Windows 95 came out - true plug and play configuration.

News are ringing about Microsoft wanting to acquire Yahoo's assets, and I strongly oppose such. As much as I enjoy using Windows XP, I seriously don't want to loose anything I've got with yahoo to Microsoft. I will not say Microsoft is a horrible company, but I think it would not be in the best interests of Yahoo to allow itself to be gobbled up by Microsoft. Not only is it also against anti-trust laws, but it is ethically wrong, and there are rules about competition.

Hello everyone! I have a Fujitsu Siemens Laptop running windows XP SP2. I recently installed microsoft's Live MSN Messenger, along with microsoft live photo gallery. My desktop background image dissapears eversince! Everything else works, all the icons are in their places, there is just no background image anymore. Sometimes the background image dissapears LIVE before my very eyes! I try to set a new desktop background image by various methods but none works. My backgroung image only appears for a few moments while shutting down or booting my computer. I did a search of course and I read a lot about microsoft live photo gallery being in BETA state. But the official microsoft site says nothing about it being a beta product. I called Microsoft's help line, they were very polite, and they told me that microsoft live photo gallery is a third party application and that I sould uninstall it and see what happens. I like the live photo gallery application, what should I do? Thanks!

With all of these new products Microsoft is having some issues. In Photo Gallery the major problem seems to be not getting the required imaging codecs automatically installed. Or, having the codecs interfere with other software already on the computer. (Like the software used in XP that controls the image viewer -- officially called the Windows Picture %26 Fax Viewer -- which is what displays your desktop background image.)

I want to remove my Microsoft Office Standard Edition Trial 2007 from my computer completely, since my trial has run out. I cannot use them anymore, and are just hogging space. What you will find is that certain components are associated with certain programs, and may be uninstalled along with them, saving you a LITTLE time.
